Dandenong is the heart of Melbourne’s growing southeast corridor. The State Government, through VicUrban and in partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong, is investing $290 million in the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative. It is the largest urban renewal project in Victoria since the Melbourne Docklands and aims to rejuvenate the city as a thriving place to work, live, learn, invest and socialise.
Some of Council’s key community facilities include the Drum Theatre at the Dandenong Town Hall, The Castle youth music venue, and the Paddy O’Donoghue community services centre in Noble Park.
These relatively new state-of-the-art facilities have now set the benchmark for future construction projects, both in the nature of service delivery and in the environmental and sustainable features of the buildings. They highlight the direction council is taking in coordinating facilities in a manner that provides easy, accessible and friendly services for our community.
Some of the exciting projects now underway or in planning around the city include:
-
Development of a new Children’s Services Centre in central Springvale;
-
A $26 million upgrade of the Dandenong Market;
-
Improvements to the 50 hectare Tatterson Park, including new paths, plants and street lighting;
-
Revitalisation of central Dandenong as part of the State Government’s $290 million injection of funds;
-
Continued development of the new Metro Village 3175 housing development on the former Dandenong saleyards site;
-
Development and public artwork on the George Street bridge;
-
Upgrades to the Dandenong Oasis and Noble Park swimming pools.
